Hello green cadets!

I hope everyone is settled into their classes now. ECOS has a lot of exciting things coming up this semester, and we’ve got a lot of goals for our campus this semester.

  • Meetings will be held on the 1st and 4th Tuesday at 2:30PM of every month. We will be meeting, as of right now, behind A-102.
  • We will be filming a short film raising awareness about recycling and the small changes people can make in their life to help their environment. It will be filmed on campus and be less than 10 minutes long. Kingwood also did a video, and you can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME9d9gVWCyY
  • If anyone has any ideas for a script or things to say in the video, please e-mail me at Crystal.L.Lovelady@lonestar.edu or e-mail Professor Devoley at Michael.S.Devoley@lonestar.edu. Right now we’re also seeking for actors to help in it. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please get with us asap! We hope to have this done by the end of semester.
  • CAR POOLING! We discussed the possibility of shuttles to help keep down parking lot congestion. There is also advertisements around campus about it. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to make parking better? Next semester there will be even less parking, as half of our parking lot may end having to be used to store equipment for the parking garage.
  • Fund raising ideas. I am waiting to get the okay for our club to be able to do a bake sell, and raffle off green supplies or items, and to see if we can make a donate button on paypal in our blog. We’ll have more information by next week, and after the Tuesday presentation will hopefully be able to have a plan for the club’s fundraising strategy.
  • We have a new and improved flickr to store our pictures! If you’ve been a member and have old photos not added, please e-mail them to me, so I can add them to the flickr page. To see our sets up, go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42837681@N04/sets/ Don’t forget to bookmark or add us as a contact!
We’re also working on receiving more recycle bins in hallways for students to recycle paper, to have Fazoli’s switch to paper plates again instead of styrofoam, and to bring a garden/pond area to our campus. If you have any ideas, please tell Professor Devoley or I.

YOU’RE what makes this club possible. Dream big, and be the change you want to see! Before this club existed, there wasn’t even recycling on campus. We’ve done a lot of good for the campus, but there is always more to be done.

Don’t forget to come to the presentation by Mr. Bob Dailey from the Community Associations of the Woodlands – Environmental Services next Tuesday on October 6th at 2:30PM INSIDE A-102. Seeds and seedlings will be given away for free! The topic will be on the frugal and environmentally friendly gardening, and explore what can be done given the various time, space and soil constraints.

We will have a brief executive meeting AFTER the presentation to discuss these and other initiatives.  We hope to see you there!

Stay Green,

Crystal Lovelady
Club President
