Fall Family Festival, Recycle Day: Keep These Events Afloat!

Hello ECOS Club!

I have three events I wanted to discuss with the club. The ECOS Club will not be participating in the Fall Family Festival with LSC or the Recycle Day event UNLESS at least four to five people can confirm they are able to help out on both events. It would be unfair to have only one person show up representing ECOS. We’re one of the largest clubs on campus, so let’s show that we don’t only have a big mailing list, but we have students who are involved, as well! We don’t want to have to cancel all the great activities we have, so PLEASE let Professor Devoley or myself know if you can make it. It is okay if you can’t do both events, or can’t stay the full time they go on. If anyone can even donate 1 hour of their time, it still helps out big time. Both events are being held on this campus. Recycle Day will be on Saturday, November 14th from 9AM – 1PM. Again, even just a hour of your time will help make a presence at the event, and some of the proceeds collected to the recycling done that day go to supporting LSC’s Spring Fling. We’ll be mostly helping organize the recycling and moving it to a truck. It won’t be as involved (sorry, no face painting or chocolate!), but it’s still a great cause. The Fall Family Festival will be on Saturday, November 21st from 10AM – 2PM. We’ll be painting faces, selling fair trade coffee and chocolate, and making turkey handprints and pine-cone bird feeders at a booth. Both events can be put on your resume as volunteer experiences, and may even count as community service for anyone doing the Honors program for LSC. These two events are really the big things we do the Fall semester, and next Spring we’ll have a community service project we’re working on, the Spring Fling, and more speakers.

Here’s also information on an upcoming recycling speech in our community. Since we’re the local environment club for LSC, it would really show the community how much we’re involved to make sure some of us attend. If you can make it, please let Professor Devoley or myself know. We hope at least five people can come!

 The Woodlands GREEN

November “Going Green” Lecture Series Program – November 9 at Montgomery County Mitchell Library (Sterling Ridge)

As the public gains a growing awareness of the importance of recycling, The Woodlands GREEN proudly presents our November program on “How Things Get Recycled”. Some may wonder what happens to the material we place in our recycling bins each week. The November program will feature two experts in this field. Special Guest Maia Corbitt, Executive Director of the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR), based in Austin, will be presenting an overview of the recycling industry and ways in which the public can have a very real positive environmental impact by recycling.

Walk In the Woods Nature Lecture is November 12 at McCullough HS and the topic is Water Birds of Our Area.

I really hope some of you can make it. Again, PLEASE let us know. We’d hate to have to cancel the ECOS Club involvement in either event due to being just a couple people short to help out.

 Stay Green!
